Apprentice Chef Tastes Success

Apprentice Chef Tastes Success

Working as a kitchenhand at a Queensland mine site has led to big things for Caitlin, who is cooking up a career as a chef.

'The Personnel Group is one of three CoAct members that are delivering the Transition to Work service for people aged 15-21'

After moving from the Sunshine State to Wangaratta in north east Victoria, Caitlin approached The Personnel Group for help to find work. The Personnel Group is one of three CoAct members that are delivering the Transition to Work service for people aged 15-21 – it was a perfect fit for Caitlin.

In her initial appointment with Employer Engagement Consultant Luke, Caitlin spoke about her experience working in the hospitality industry and indicated she was keen to pursue a career in that field.

Luke arranged an interview for Caitlin with a local café in Wangaratta that was looking for an apprentice chef. The café owner was very impressed with Caitlin’s enthusiasm and offered her the role. Luke then engaged the local Australian Apprenticeship Support Network provider to take care of the training contract.

'Funding was arranged so Caitlin could complete her Responsible Service of Alcohol training and purchase the clothing she needed to meet the dress standards at her new workplace.'

But the support from The Personnel Group did not stop there. Funding was arranged so Caitlin could complete her Responsible Service of Alcohol training and purchase the clothing she needed to meet the dress standards at her new workplace.

In just one month, Caitlin went from out-of-work kitchenhand to apprentice chef, and she couldn’t be happier. Having already commenced her study with the local TAFE, she is enjoying the freedom of ‘earning while learning’ and dreaming of the travel opportunities that may come her way once she is qualified.
